Generally, international travelers need a visa to enter the US. The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of participating countries to travel to the US for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa, though you must have a valid passport.
VWP travelers are required to have a valid authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to travel, are screened at the port of entry into the US, and are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT program.
If your country does not participate in the VWP, you will need to make an appointment with your US Embassy or Consulate for a visa interview. The turnaround time for most visa applications is 30 days, but it may take longer in some cases. We recommend applying for your visa at least two months in advance of your scheduled trip to avoid delays in processing.
Letter of invitation
During online registration, you will be asked if you need a Letter of Invitation or Visa Letter. By checking yes, you will be prompted to enter profile information (date of birth, passport number, etc.) Once you have completed the registration process, a copy of the letter, saved in a protected pdf, will be sent via email to the address you provided during registration. For a fee of $100.00, you can have a hard copy of the form sent via postal service. Attach this letter to your non-immigration visa application.
